The Other Side

Timothy HillTimothy Hillʼs latest album The Other Side, is an intimate collection of original songs, folk ballads, gospel blues, and songs of Latin America and India, all colored with the lens of Hillʼs far-reaching sense of harmony, and some stunning flights of harmonic singing.

The Other Side is a personal journey through songs which have a deep resonance for Hill. Songs from Blind Willie Johnson and Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Argentinian Jorge Fandermole, Irishman Ron Kavana, 15th century Indian poet Kabir, the forgotten and varied authors of The Water Is Wide and The Lone Pilgrim, three original songs by Hill, and finally a Gershwin tune.

Hillʼs singing ranges from tender and direct to virtuosic. His guitar work is by turns delicate, driving and hypnotic. The songsʼ themes reflect and amplify one another, suggesting a longed-for reunion, arrival at a destination, a new perspective. The "other side" may be a great distance away, or carried deep within.

As Hill sings in the title track,

"Speak to me from the other side of love / from the other side of ʻIʼm here, Iʼm goneʼ, and all that stuff / speak to me from out beyond the ever-changing tide, oh, speak to me from the other side."
